Shay August Jones
Hi, I’m Shay! I am a trans nonbinary human originally from the midwest, and got my undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in Psychology and a certificate in writing from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. I have worked in education access for the majority of my adult life, supporting limited-income and first-generation students. I earned my Master's degree from the University of Washington in Social Work with a focus on Community-Centered practice. I also met Emily in graduate school, and we quickly bonded over our social justice values and our love of food. Living in Arcata reminds me of my childhood in the midwest and I instantly felt at home upon moving here. I’ve fallen in love with the farmer’s markets, forest, marsh, and beach walks with my dog Libby, and vegan baking for friends.
Hi, I’m Ellinoa! I am a graduate of Humboldt State University and earned my M.Ed. in Counseling and Student Affairs from Northern Arizona University. In addition to working on the Emily for Arcata campaign, I am a college instructor specializing in content including motivation, time management, test anxiety, and more. I have been interested in politics from a young age. I met Emily around the same time, and have been inspired by her dedication to her values and commitment to positive social change. I feel fortunate to be a resident of Arcata, and if I’m not on the campaign trail you’ll find me at the river getting some sun or cooking up a new vegan dish in my kitchen!
Hi! My name is Liberation but most people just call me Libby. I was adopted from Sequoia Humane Society by Emily and Shay. I take my job as the campaign mascot very seriously. Some of my favorite things include learning about social justice topics (check out #lessonswithlibby on Instagram), running around the park, swimming in the river, and playing with other dogs.
